Welcome to the official website of American Tae Kwon Do United’s National Health Kick!
This site is dedicated to helping you to successfully prepare for and conduct an incredible board break-a-thon that will benefit your school, your students, and your community.
Since becoming a national event in 2007, a growing number of Tae Kwon Do schools have joined in and focused their efforts on supporting their local children’s hospitals. This is a tremendous opportunity to teach life lessons in kindness, respect and service to your students not through lecture but through action.
As you learn more about the Children’s Miracle Network and its member hospitals, I am sure that you will agree when I say they are among our country’s most valuable entities. They facilitate and provide life enhancing and even life saving care to children in need twenty four hours a day, three hundred sixty five days a year. Clearly, they are worthy of our respect and our support. Remember all of the donation you raise will benefit a CMN hospital right in your own community, and therefore will ultimately benefit the family and friends of your students.
I know from experience that on the day of your own Health Kick that you will be proud to be a Tae Kwon Do master and instructor. You will watch with pride as your tiniest student break their first board and as your most advanced Black Belts impress the audience with the exciting skills that you have taught to them. Most of all, you will enjoy watching your entire school come together to cheer one another on and to share in the special energy that comes from joining together to help others in need. It is truly a great feeling, and one that I’m certain will motivate you to host an event each year.
Your commitment to running a world class event will be rewarded by extra community awareness and recognition. The community leaders, local athletes, and government officials who attend your event will become your ambassadors and help us to share the message that Tae Kwon Do dojangs are not just about recreation but character development and contribution to our communities.
Getting started with your first Health Kick can seem daunting at first. There are numerous details to attend to and much activity to coordinate. However it is a great opportunity to develop leadership within your dojang and to develop your network in the community. The resources on this site are designed to be your guide and will take you step by step through every task you need to complete in order to host a memorable and rewarding event.
Remember our ATU staff and the staff at CMN are here to help and we want you to feel free to reach out to us with questions or concerns. We are honored you have joined us and we are here to help.
The key is not how large your first event is but simply that you get started. Every dollar matters and will be appreciated. “The benefits of each Health Kick last long after the last board is broken.” Thank you for your support and dedication. I look forward to hearing about your success!
Sincerely,
Grandmaster Sun Ki Chong
ATU President
